About me
Welcome to the Kaiser Permanente division of gynecological oncology based in San Diego. I'm pleased to have the opportunity to present my credentials to you and share other information about myself. It's very important that you feel comfortable with me as your cancer surgeon, knowing that I understand your concerns and am capable in helping you achieve your treatment goals. I have been in practice over 20 years, and am able to combine a broad expertise in gynecological tumor surgery with the wisdom gained through many years of personal experience. I hope that I will be better able to serve you with current information when we meet.
Biography
I was born in Toronto, Canada into a large Dutch immigrant family. I completed medical school at the University of Western Ontario in London, graduating cum laud. In my quest to have the best training available, I moved to Los Angeles to complete my residency in obstetrics and gynecology at USC under the leadership of Dr. Daniel R. Mishell, Jr. I also completed two fellowships: gynecological urology and gynecological oncology, the latter under Dr. C. Paul Morrow. I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1993 because I wanted to focus on practicing both gynecology and gynecological oncology while delivering the highest level of care.
About my practice
I am certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in gynacological oncology, as well as by the Royal College of Surgeons in obstetrics and gynecology. My medical license allows me to practice in California and Hawaii. When possible, I promote minimally invasive surgery. I am certified and trained to use the latest robot technology for your care. In order to train the next generation of gynecologists, I maintain my position as a clinical professor at UC San Diego where I also teach. I love my job and the opportunity to take care of my members. My philosophy is to give the best care that I am able to provide.
How I thrive
Keeping balance in my life is very important to me. I'm a hiker and swimmer and I try to work out at least five times a week. I enjoy travelling, especially to World War I battle sites where I can read about the Great War, and photography. I also make it a priority to set aside time to relax and enjoy my family.
