Welcome to my Web page. I am pleased to have the opportunity to introduce myself to you and tell you about our continuing care services and home health, hospice, and palliative care. I am the physician-in-charge of these areas, but my heart is in the practice of medicine, and I remain an active member of these teams.
I knew I wanted to be a physician at the age of 10, and, coming from a large family with several older members, it is no surprise that I chose geriatric medicine as my field. I grew up on the East Coast but moved to San Diego for college and have been a Californian ever since. My husband (a retired dentist) and our three children have enjoyed the California lifestyle, with lots of beach time, skiing, and camping. I was a Girl Scout leader for 10 years. We have an empty nest now, but we love to travel and visit our daughters in their new environments.
Geriatric medicine depends on close collaboration between you and your health care team, which includes doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, social workers, and rehabilitation specialists. Our continuing care team cares for people in skilled nursing facilities, including short-term rehabilitation services and long-term care. Our home health, hospice, and palliative care teams visit members in their homes to provide skilled services based on the specific needs of the person and the family. I feel honored to be a physician and to have the opportunity to become closely connected with people at times of great stress or transition.
My husband has always been unfailingly supportive of my work, including the long hours and constant phone calls. I keep myself going by exercising (especially long walks with friends), reading (I have been in a book club for over 20 years), and staying close with good friends. I have extended family here in San Diego and stay close with others who live further away. My husband and I are thrilled to have become grandparents! Life is full, and I try to count my blessings every day.
