About me
Hello, my nickname is Kate. I’m glad to have the opportunity to introduce myself and tell you about my medical journey that led me to my current role as an internal medicine physician at Kaiser Permanente’s West Los Angeles Medical Center. My hopes are to create meaningful relationships with members and deliver high-quality health care to them.
Biography
I was born and raised in Los Angeles and received my medical degree from the American University of Beirut. During my medical training, I discovered my passion for primary care and cancer survivorship. I completed a 2-year postdoctoral research fellowship in gastrointestinal oncology at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. I was honored as the recipient of the American Society of Clinical Oncology 2020 Conquer Cancer Merit Award. In 2020, I began my internal medicine residency training at Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center in Georgia. It was a privilege to impact the lives of many patients and their loved ones daily and to be on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic. I was humbled to receive the Intern of the Year Award, and I discovered my passion for teaching medical students. In 2023, I joined Kaiser Permanente’s West Los Angeles Medical Center as a primary care physician, and I remain actively involved in leading-edge research. I am a preceptor at the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine and teach medical students in the clinic. I am committed to join a diverse community of healthcare providers dedicated to promoting quality and leadership in medicine through education, research, and clinical care. During my free time, I volunteer to support underprivileged children and women’s achievements. I have had the privilege of supporting an influential activist in her mission for children’s education to establish a public children’s library in a country affected by war.
About my practice
Preventive health and a healthy lifestyle are key for an individual’s well-being. We make sure members are up to date on routine tests, immunizations, and screenings. It is of utmost importance to screen for conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer in their early stages before symptoms develop or become more difficult to treat. We value members and work as a team to formulate an individualized treatment plan. We offer education and counseling for smoking cessation, mental health conditions, management of chronic illnesses, exercise, and healthy balanced eating habits to protect a member’s overall health and well-being. The types of screenings recommended vary based on age, gender, social history, and family history. Screenings for high blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes can help detect metabolic conditions that can be treated with lifestyle modifications and/or medications to prevent serious disease and premature death. Breast, colorectal, cervical, lung, and prostate cancer are among the most common cancers, and early detection and treatment can prevent them from spreading or becoming fatal. Our goal is to maintain members’ health, treat members during an acute illness, and manage chronic medical conditions. Together, we will be partners in your healthcare journey, work in a team approach with specialty services, and take the necessary steps to help you maintain good quality of life.
How I thrive
To thrive in a medical career is to live a happy and healthy life surrounded by love and positivity. It may sound simple, but balance is key across all aspects of life, whether it’s a healthy diet, regular physical activity, work, time spent with loved ones, and time spent alone. Self-care allows us to be the best versions of ourselves to provide the best care for members and loved ones. My forms of self-care include early morning jogs, cooking healthy meals for my friends and family, spending time with my dog, traveling to new cities, playing tennis, swimming, exploring museums, and art. I enjoy learning something new each day, keep up with my health screenings, and count my blessings.
