Hi, my name is Jeong-Ah Jennifer Kim, and I'm glad you'll soon be getting an eye exam! Eye exams are important, not only for maintaining your vision but also for taking care of the rest of your body.
I immigrated to Los Angeles when I was about 5 years old. While I grew up mostly in Los Angeles, I spent 9 years in Northern California for college and optometry school. The Bay Area is beautiful, but I moved back down to Los Angeles to be closer to family. In recent years, I have been able to go on medical missions to countries such as Nepal, Myanmar, and East Timor, and to volunteer in my own city’s skid row. It's amazing how much basic eye care is needed in countries such as these and in our own neighborhood. It has given me much appreciation of how to apply my profession outside of work and much enrichment in my perspective at work.
I have chosen a profession that I enjoy and have colleagues who share the same values and goals. I love how this profession allows me to develop relationships with members. I am witnessing kids growing up and getting wise insights into how to maneuver through life. Working at Kaiser Permanente has allowed me to practice not only primary eye care but also given the opportunity to specialize in low vision and to help organize educational meetings to learn about the latest clinical developments.
I love hiking and spending time outdoors, particularly the mountains. While I may not like spending too much time on the beach, I enjoy seeing the ocean view, feeling the ocean breeze, and hearing the waves crash when I'm biking. I like seeing musicals, concerts at the Hollywood Bowl, and productions at the center theater group. Reading historical nonfiction is fun, too! And, of course, spending quality time with family and friends is a must.
