Welcome to my Web page! I’m happy to have this chance to introduce myself to you and tell you about my work as a physician here at Kaiser Permanente in San Diego. I’m a general surgeon who joined Kaiser Permanente in July 2004 after completing my training at UC San Diego. I feel fortunate to be able to work at Kaiser Permanente as both a clinician and an educator who is working to make our organization the best health care delivery system in the country.
I was raised in California, and, after completing my four years of medical school in Chicago, I moved back to California with my wife to begin my training in general surgery. I come from a very large family that, interestingly enough, has no other physicians. I decided to pursue a career in medicine at an early age, and I’m fortunate to truly enjoy what I do every day. Medicine is my passion. I love having the opportunity to care for my members during their preoperative, operative, and postoperative care. The time before, during, and after surgery can be a very scary time, and I strive to make it as comfortable and painless for our members as possible. My goal has always been to provide care that improves the quality of my members’ lives.
I am a board-certified general surgeon who performs all aspects of general surgery. I have special interests in tumors of the pancreas and biliary system, as well as complex re-operative abdominal operations.
Since joining Kaiser Permanente in San Diego a little more than nine years ago, I have run more than 35 marathons, 15 half-marathons, and three Alcatraz swims. My goal in the next five years is to complete a marathon in all 50 states. Physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle to me are to me what living well is all about. I would not feel comfortable counseling my members about making healthy decisions in their life if I wasn’t doing the same. My other interests include traveling, hiking, jogging, swimming, and spending time with my family and friends.
