About me
Hello, and welcome to my Web Page. I am a Southern California native, born in Orange. I have lived in Southern California most of my life, with the exception being a 2-year period when I lived in Dallas to complete my vascular surgery fellowship. I completed my medical school at UCLA and my general surgical residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. I completed my vascular surgery fellowship at Parkland Memorial Hospital and University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Centers in Dallas.
Biography
When I was 12, my family moved from Irvine to Riverside, and I graduated valedictorian at La Sierra High School. During my junior year of high school, my father was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer. He underwent 2 major operations and chemotherapy and, thankfully, became cancer-free. It was during his experience that I developed an appreciation for the field of medicine. The ability to heal people both physically and mentally carries a great deal of appeal for me. I entered the prestigious Biomedical Sciences Program with UC Riverside/UCLA in 2000. I am honored to say I was among 24 students from a starting pool of 343 selected to complete the program. During my second year of undergraduate studies, my mother was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. She did not like going to the doctor and had not gone in for a simple mammogram, and she died 6 months after her diagnosis. Through her experience, I realized it isn’t enough to simply have book knowledge — a physician needs to be able to connect with their patients on a human level. My mom’s experience serves as a guiding principle for me when I interact with all my members. Following my vascular fellowship training, I worked in private practice for 4.5 years in the Riverside area. I was also part of the inaugural Riverside Community Hospital general surgery residency faculty and served as part of the clinical faculty at the UC Riverside School of Medicine. I am thankful for my experiences in private practice as they gave me deeper insights into the world of medicine and allowed me to cultivate and develop my skills as a surgeon because I saw a wide array of complex, challenging cases.
About my practice
My practice is always to take a member-centered approach to surgery. Every member is different when it comes to the risks and benefits of surgery. I take a very direct approach with my members, and I feel my job as a surgeon is to tell you what problem you have, give you the different options available, and discuss which particular option would be best for you. I like to keep a friendly, loose environment with my staff. I want a happy work environment in which everyone can take pride in the care we provide. I enjoy the variety that vascular surgery offers: varicose veins, venous pathology, dialysis access, thoracic outlet syndrome, peripheral arterial disease, carotid artery disease, aortic aneurysms. Particularly, I enjoy complex aortic aneurysms, which require physician modification of existing endografts, a skill I learned under the tutelage of Dr. Carlos Timaran at UT Southwestern.
How I thrive
I thrive by maintaining a balance between my work life and my personal life. I have a beautiful family. My wife is our backbone, and my daughter and son are a never-ending source of happiness and energy for me. I enjoy reading classic novels and staying up to date on current surgical literature. I enjoy running and watching sports — I am an avid Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Chargers, and Los Angeles Dodgers fan. As my wife likes to say, any sport where people are chasing after something, I will watch!
