About me
Greetings, and thank you for visiting my Web page! My name is Dr. Huan Zhang, and I am a specialist physician in head and neck surgery. I am privileged to have this opportunity to explain a little bit more about myself and my practice. Through open communication and shared decision-making, I can help you to improve your ears, nose, and throat health.
Biography
My family immigrated to America from China when a career opportunity came up for my father in Minnesota. We lived there for several years before moving to California. When I enrolled at UC Berkeley for my undergraduate studies, I knew I wanted to do something meaningful with my abilities and time. Going into medicine felt like a natural fit. After graduating with my bachelor’s degree in molecular and cellular biology, I went to the Case Western Reserve University’s Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine in Ohio for my medical degree. I was able to immerse myself in the work because the program had a small-group education format that focused on individualized problem-solving. It was during this time that I discovered my love for head and neck surgery. I found the intricacies of skull anatomy fascinating and discovered that I had a talent for surgery. However, I also wanted to spend time helping educate patients. For residency, I went to the University of Iowa, followed by a one-year fellowship in rhinology and anterior skull base at UCLA. During my time there, I helped many patients traveling in from Kern County. I realized there was a real need for someone with my area of expertise locally and decided to take a position at Kaiser Permanente in Kern County. I am grateful for the experience of my education taking place all over the United States. It gave me a deep appreciation for the diversity of our communities and taught me how to adapt communication styles for those I serve.
About my practice
As your physician, I believe it is critical to establish communication and trust. I want to recognize your background and hear your experiences. Understanding your perspective on your health journey is helpful to planning the best course of action. Surgery is a big step, so I believe all possible effort should be put into ensuring it is the right course.
How I thrive
Eating well and exercising help to keep my mind and body thriving — especially swimming. During my free time, I really love to discover new places, and I enjoy hiking. Exploring the Canadian Rockies was an amazing adventure, and visiting Alaska was breathtaking. For hobbies, I like to try my hands at everything! I play several instruments, including the violin, flute, and piano, and I do photography any chance I get.
