About me
I’m Dr. Frew H. Gebreab (pronounced "Freh-wu Geb-re-ab”). Welcome to my Web page. I'm honored to have the opportunity to share my background with you and help you get to know me better. I believe it’s important for you to feel confident and comfortable with your personal physician, and I look forward to partnering with you on your health journey.
Biography
I was born and raised in Ethiopia and earned my MD from Jimma University. After moving to the United States, I completed my internal medicine residency and pulmonary fellowship at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, followed by a critical care fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and a geriatrics fellowship at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, Case Western Reserve University.
About my practice
I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2007 after spending a year in private practice. I was drawn to Kaiser Permanente because of its focus on preventive care and its commitment to providing team-based, timely care when our members need it most. I also remain connected to global health by supporting the fellowship training program at St. Paul’s Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with both technical and material resources. I strive to provide timely, personalized care based on evidence and current research — whether it’s in the outpatient pulmonary clinic, during a hospital consultation, or in the intensive care unit. I believe in a holistic approach to patient care that not only treats illness but also emphasizes prevention and overall well-being. It’s a privilege to care for members during both routine and critical moments in their lives, and I aim to support them every step of the way.
How I thrive
I come from a large family that still resides in Ethiopia, and I travel back every year or two to stay connected. At home, my wife — who also serves as my wellness coach — and I make physical activity a priority. We enjoy long-distance running together, often joined by our 3 boys. Staying active through running and sports helps me maintain both physical and mental well-being. Giving back to the community and staying active with my family are both vital to how I thrive.
