Where I practice
Hello, and welcome to my Web page. I am thankful to have this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself. As your surgeon, I believe that ensuring members understand their options and trust the services I provide is of the utmost importance. I consider it an honor and a privilege every time members entrust me with their care.
I am a San Diego native and have spent most of my life in this city. I graduated from UC San Diego and then decided on a medical career in the Navy. I earned my medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 2002, following which I completed a general surgery internship at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD). Following the internship, I was a flight surgeon with a CH53 helicopter squadron at MCAS Miramar and deployed to Afghanistan from 2004 to 2005. I subsequently completed residency training in otolaryngology at NMCSD, during which I developed my interest in head and neck oncology. I completed fellowship training at Mayo Clinic, Arizona, specializing in in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction under Dr. Richard Hayden. I then returned as faculty to NMCSD and was the program director for the Otolaryngology Department until joining Kaiser Permanente in 2018. I am very proud of my 20 years in the Navy, which have greatly enriched my life.
About my practice
My primary area of focus is head and neck oncology and reconstruction. This includes both benign and malignant tumors of the upper aerodigestive tract, thyroid, parathyroid, salivary glands, and skin. I am trained in transoral laser microsurgery (TLM) for the resection of cancers of the tongue, throat, and larynx. TLM often provides a valuable alternative to tumors that would otherwise be treated with radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
How I thrive
My world revolves around my family. Like me, my wife is a San Diego native, and we share 2 amazing children. We spend time together traveling, going to the beach, skiing, hiking, fishing, and camping. I strive to maintain a balance in life and enjoy the gift of each and every day. I live well knowing that I have the opportunity to improve the lives of others through the services I provide.
