Welcome to my Web page.
As a graduate student, I worked in vascular research and, while at the University of California, I did research in gastroenterology and neurophysiology that led to having several articles published in medical journals. I am a member of the California Medical Association and the Kern County Medical Society. I have held seats on several boards, including the Southern California Permanente Board of Directors and the American Red Cross. I am a founding board member of the New Hope Dire Dawa Orphans Centre in Ethiopia, and I’m the medical director of the David L. Harmon Health Center at the Bakersfield Homeless Shelter. I was raised in the Midwest, the son of a small-town doctor. After coming to Southern California in the 1970s, I worked my way through college and began doing biomedical research. It was this work at the University of California that convinced me that I should be a doctor. Later, I was attracted to Kaiser Permanente’s approach to health care. Along the way, I learned that there are unmet health needs in our cities, and I began to volunteer to help those who have less access to health care. I now regularly visit our local homeless center and see patients, and I also have an interest in the politics of obtaining private and government support for social projects. I like to travel and see how different people live, and I have participated in volunteer medical missions to the Philippines, Guatemala, and Ethiopia. Such activities have given me a better perspective on the health care we enjoy here in the United States. My family and I live in Bakersfield and receive our medical care at the Kaiser Permanente offices.
I am an osteopathic physician who has been a family practitioner with Kaiser Permanente since 1992. As a board-certified family physician, I practice the full scope of patient care, including pediatrics, sports medicine, minor surgery, and gynecology. I am currently part of the urgent care team at our Stockdale Medical Offices and don’t see a regular group of patients. Our team’s goal is to make our patients feel comfortable while doing our best to address their medical needs. We are continuously working to fulfill our mission of providing accessible, high-quality care.
In my spare time, I am an avid golfer, a musician, and enjoy camping and fishing.
