About me

Warmest greetings! I’m happy to have this chance to introduce myself and tell you about my work as a physician with Kaiser Permanente’s Santa Clarita Medical Offices 1. Board-certified in family medicine, I treat members of all ages and genders, from birth through senior years. In addition, I work as an urgent care physician. I speak medical Spanish, and I am working on my Japanese. I am a faculty member at the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine, and I teach medical students in my practice. The Santa Clarita Valley is my home, and serving our community means a lot to me. I live just a few blocks from the medical office where I see members, and when I’m out and about town, I love to run into and connect with the families I serve. I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2018, and there is nowhere else I would rather work.

Biography

Born in Texas, I have lived in Southern California since I was 4 years old. I’m the proud husband of an amazing wife and father of 3 wonderful children who bring me endless joy. I received my bachelor’s degree in mathematics from UCLA, and I went to medical school at UC San Diego. I completed my residency at White Memorial Medical Center near Downtown LA, and soon after, I proudly joined Kaiser Permanente. I became a physician because I love science and am passionate about teaching and helping others. I am a competitive tennis player and have been since I was a kid. I also relish playing chess and directing the LA Chess Ladder, a free and welcoming chess community I founded 11 years ago. I am passionate about politics, civil rights, and social justice. As a physician and a citizen, I believe that individual health and community health are linked, and I support reproductive freedom, LGBTQ+ rights, anti-racism, a living wage, and protecting the natural resources that sustain us.

About my practice

One of the reasons I practice family medicine is because I love problem-solving. I embrace the challenge of helping members of all ages, genders, and backgrounds navigate a wide variety of medical issues and achieve a high level of wellness. Some of the services I provide include adult medicine, women’s health, pediatrics, care for seniors, mental health, chronic pain, healthy weight management, diabetes care, sports medicine, and cancer prevention. I perform a variety of procedures in my clinic, including pap tests, steroid joint injections, excision of skin lesions, and cryotherapy. I am a strong believer in medicine based on evidence and current research, so I stay up to date on the newest breakthroughs in medical research and technology. Staying connected with members is a crucial part of my job, so I am very active on our KP.org messaging service.

How I thrive

I try to live the same healthy lifestyle that I promote in my practice. I believe health is a temple held up by numerous strong pillars, including nutrition, exercise, love, family, and mental health. When I’m not working as a physician, you may find me on the tennis court or over a chessboard. I like to read manga and watch anime with my children. I enjoy strategic board games like Settlers of Catan and Monopoly. I listen to a variety of music, especially The Temptations, Jennifer Lopez, Cranberries, Jam Project, Alanis Morissette, Seal, and Rent. My favorite films are What’s Love Got it Do With It, Departures, Boys Don’t Cry, Hidden Figures, Parasite, and Fargo. I like to watch the news and listen to podcasts to stay up to date on politics and social issues. From cooking healthy meals to running and biking on the Santa Clarita Paseos to having fun with my family, I try to keep myself strong so that I may be in top health for members.
