About me

Welcome to my Web page. My name is Dr. Craig Jex, and I am a podiatrist for Kaiser Permanente in Kern County. It is my hope that this page will provide background on my journey into medicine and give insight on how I work with members to improve foot and ankle health.

Biography

I was born and raised just south of Utah County in Utah. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in human biology, I moved to the San Francisco area with my wife, and I enrolled in medical school at the California School of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt University. During this time, I became a new father. Though challenging, medical school was excellent for providing a broad range of experience. I had an opportunity to complete a rotation at the Veteran’s Administration in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in my last year of medical school. I graduated valedictorian and value the medical education I received there. It was a wonderful time for my young expanding family, with a lot of opportunities for hiking and exploring. I then started a surgical residency in foot and ankle reconstruction through St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan. After completion of my residency, I took a position at Great Lakes Podiatry in Escanaba, Michigan. Though we enjoyed Michigan, I was recruited to work at Bakersfield Foot and Ankle Surgeons in California, which was much closer to our extended family in the West. I practiced there for 5 years before taking a position at the Foot and Ankle Institute in Bakersfield. After 11 years, I decided to make the jump to Kaiser Permanente because of their team approach system and high quality of care, and it has been my home ever since.

About my practice

Communication is critical between a physician and member. By building a trusted relationship, I ensure each member is involved in the development of their treatment plan and understands their part in it. I take the time to thoroughly explain all potential scenarios and establish realistic expectations for results. Using medicine based on evidence and current research and extensive education, I work in partnership with members toward their recovery and treatment.

How I thrive

Whether it is taking our boat out for a trip to the lake or traveling throughout Europe, my family is at the center of everything that makes me thrive. No matter how busy we get or how old my children get, my wife and I always get together every Friday to watch movies or our favorite college football team, the Utah Utes (I am an avid fan). I am also a big sports fan, especially college football (Go, Utes!) and more recently enjoying ice hockey.
