About me
Hello and welcome to my Web page! I'm Dr. Nielsen and work in the neurology departments at Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center (Monday through Wednesday) and Riverside Medical Center (Thursday and Friday). My practice focuses on multiple sclerosis and similar neurologic conditions.
Biography
Denver, CO is where I was raised, but I left home for college at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. While at BYU, I met my wife, and we have lived in Colorado (for neurology residency), Boston (for a two-year fellowship in multiple sclerosis clinical care and research at Beth Israel Deaconess-Harvard), and Seattle (where I worked for four years at a private non-profit medical center as a multiple sclerosis specialist). We recently left the beautiful Pacific Northwest and moved to Southern California to be closer to family. During my medical studies at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, I was fortunate to find a mentor in the neurology department who specialized in multiple sclerosis. Since 2001, I have been intimately involved in the care of multiple sclerosis patients and related research. Throughout my training and career, I have been fortunate to work with and learn from some very gifted clinicians and researchers in the field of multiple sclerosis. Outside of work, my hobbies include everything that involves my family. We enjoy going to orchards and picking fruit, hiking, various outdoor recreation, playing with my elementary school age daughter (the recent obsession is everything that is "My Little Pony"), and cheering for my Denver Broncos.
About my practice
One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is working side-by-side with MS patients as their personal consultant. I do so by providing comprehensive care using a multidisciplinary approach and the essential information and available options for each patient's unique situation. My primary goal is to help my patients maintain their independence and the best possible quality of life.
How I thrive
I thrive by being present in my home and family. Work-life balance can be tricky, but keeping focus on my family keeps me grounded and happy. It also doesn't hurt when my Denver Broncos are playing well!
