About me
Welcome. My name is Dr. Abby Gross, and I am honored to be part of the Kaiser Permanente family at the Los Angeles Medical Center for over twenty-five years.
Biography
I come from a large family in New York, that has many physicians, including my spouse and two sisters. My dad was a dentist and my uncle was a proctologist, so we had both ends of the alimentary tract covered, so to speak! My daughters sing in the Los Angeles Children's Chorus, and I am a committed advocate of the proper care of the professional voice. I serve as an enthusiastic Girl Scout troop leader, emphasizing service, respectful enjoyment of the great outdoors, and the nurturing of fun and friendships. My siblings and I provide dignified care for our mother, who is struggling with dementia.
About my practice
My practice is a general head and neck surgery practice, with particular interest in the voice. Prevention of injury and early diagnosis and treatment of vocal issues is our goal. I have the privilege of working with a talented group of speech pathologists, audiologists, and other head and neck surgery colleagues. We manage challenging issues relating to the voice and use advanced equipment, including videostroboscopy (for viewing the vocal cords) and Botox treatments, with electromyography (EMG) guidance as indicated. Specialty care, including allergy, gastroenterology, neurology, pulmonology, endocrinology, rheumatology, maxillofacial surgery, and physical therapy (to name a few) complete our team approach to health maintenance. My driving force is tikkun olam, which is a Hebrew phrase meaning repairing the world.
How I thrive
I am grateful for a loving husband, two incredible daughters, a supportive network of family and friends, a career that allows me the opportunity to make a substantive difference in the lives of my patients, and the honor of knowing them. In my spare time, I have discovered the fun and challenge of maintaining a vegetable garden. Our family enjoys three dogs, a fish, and a hamster, Houdini, although he has managed to disappear . . . I have also found the fountain of youth: It's exercise! You should try it! It's better than chocolate!
