About me

I’m glad you’re here, and I appreciate the opportunity to introduce myself. Choosing a personal physician is an important decision, and I hope this page helps you get to know me and feel comfortable in my care. My last name is pronounced Edel-STEEN.

Biography

I’m a family medicine physician who believes deeply in the power of connection, curiosity, and lifelong learning. I’m originally from Boston and studied philosophy and biology at Union College in upstate New York, an experience that shaped how I think about people, ethics, and the science of medicine. I went on to attend Tufts University School of Medicine in Massachusetts, completing a medical degree and master of business administration to better understand both patient care and the systems that support it.

I completed my residency training in San Diego, where I now practice and call home. I’m passionate about helping members understand their health, make realistic and sustainable changes, and feel truly supported in their care. As part of the Kaiser Permanente Ambassador Program, I enjoy speaking with community groups and organizations, translating medical knowledge into practical, accessible guidance that helps people live healthier lives.

Outside of work, I love running, traveling, and spending time with my family and our rescue dog, Olivia. Whether in the exam room or out in the community, I value relationships and believe that trust, empathy, and clear communication are at the heart of healthcare.

About my practice

In my practice, I believe medicine works best as a partnership. I strive to give members clear options, help guide decisions, and face illness together rather than placing the burden on any one person. My goal is for members to feel heard, supported, and confident in the plan we create together.

I care for members ages 13 and older and enjoy working with adolescents, adults, and older adults across all stages of health. I place a strong emphasis on the foundations of well-being — especially physical activity and nutrition — which I believe play a central role in both prevention and long-term health.

I welcome members who are curious and engaged in their care. I encourage people to bring questions, ideas, or research they’ve encountered so we can discuss things openly. While I value these conversations, I also believe strongly in medicine that is based on evidence and current research, and I use the best available data to guide recommendations.

To help us make the most of our time together, I ask members to check in about 20 minutes before their appointment whenever possible. This helps ensure our visit feels thoughtful rather than rushed. Above all, I genuinely enjoy being a physician and consider it a privilege to care for members.

How I thrive

Outside of medicine, I make a conscious effort to live a healthy, balanced life and to model the habits I often talk about with members. Physical activity is an important part of my routine. I enjoy running and have completed half marathons, and I also value slower, restorative movement, like walking in nature with my dog. Being outdoors helps me reset and stay present, both physically and mentally.

I practice meditation as a way to manage stress, maintain perspective, and stay grounded in a busy world. I’ve found that even small moments of mindfulness can make a meaningful difference over time. Traveling is another passion of mine — it fuels my curiosity, broadens my perspective, and reminds me how interconnected we all are.

I also love reading, particularly science fiction and history. Science fiction allows me to imagine future possibilities and think creatively about technology and humanity, while history helps me better understand how people and societies evolve over time. Together, these interests help me stay curious, reflective, and engaged — qualities I bring with me into my work as a physician and into everyday life.
