How do referrals work in Coachella Valley?
If you’re a Kaiser Permanente member living in Coachella Valley, your personal doctor may refer you to one of our contracted facilities or specialists to diagnose or treat a specific condition.
After your appointment, the findings from your specialist will be copied to your Kaiser Permanente medical record for easy access by you and your doctor.
Kaiser Permanente vets all contracted specialists to make sure they meet our high standards of care.
What can I expect when my doctor refers me?
We strive to make your referral as easy as possible.
- The Kaiser Permanente Outside Referral Department usually takes 5 business days to process your doctor’s referral.
- We’ll send you a message when your referral is processed. If you have a kp.org account, we’ll notify you there within a day. Or we’ll notify you by mail. Get notified of your referral faster by registering on kp.org.
- Your referral message will include your specialist’s office phone number — so you can call and make an appointment as soon as you get it.
Can I access specialty services without a referral?
Yes, for certain specialty services. You can make an appointment without a referral for obstetric services, breast cancer screenings, bone density exams, behavioral health visits,* hearing exams, and annual eye exams.
