About me

I have had the privilege of practicing internal medicine for more than 20 years. My diverse career has included academic medicine, mentoring young physicians and nurse practitioners, wound care/hyperbaric medicine, and volunteering as director of an STD clinic for the uninsured while serving more than 3,000 of my own patients in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I grew up in that state and met my husband at the Medical College of Wisconsin. After completing my internal medicine residency with Legacy Health in Portland, I joined Kaiser Permanente. We returned to Milwaukee, where we raised our two wonderful daughters, and I had a successful practice for 17 years. My family and I enjoy travelling and being active outside, so when my husband was recruited to a pathology group in Eugene, we took the opportunity to move back to Oregon, and in a wonderful twist of fate I found Kaiser Permanente again. While I miss my patients in Milwaukee, I look forward to building new relationships. I consider my life’s work to be that of providing evidence-based care through shared decisions and guiding patients along their individual journeys.

About my practice

I have been fortunate to care for a diverse group of people in a variety of health care settings over the course of my career. At Creighton Medical Center, I enjoyed teaching, attending inpatients, organizing grand rounds, and mentoring medical students and residents. For 17 years in Milwaukee, I took care of a diverse population that came to see me as an empathetic advocate. Patients and staff often spoke of my ability to understand them without judgment. I provided a choice in various evidence-based treatment options, which enhances a shared-decision-making process. Serving on the staff of a wound clinic allowed me to take care of burn, diabetic, and venous stasis patients while staffing hyperbaric chambers. I collaborated with oncologists to promote breast cancer survivorship and became their lead internist to manage complicated cases. I helped create team models with nurse practitioners and was entrusted with the care of hospital staff, colleagues, and their families, while serving the community of Milwaukee. Serving as volunteer medical director of an uninsured clinic for LGBQT population kept the joy of practicing medicine alive.

How I thrive

“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.” —Rumi. Travel, movies, reading, film festivals, opera, hiking with my chihuahua, cycling, running, and meditation are food for my soul. Having grown up in a household with immigrant parents I embrace community values and respect for all cultures. My family has also added to my personal development. Being married to a sports enthusiast connected me to my Milwaukee community. My daughters have given me courage and faith to try new things and through their talents have fostered my enjoyment of dance and music. I have found many wonderful ways to feed my soul, but what I truly enjoy is being part of the fabric of everyday lives of people. I have cried, laughed, and prayed with my patients because our time together was profound and meaningful. I leave the room feeling joy that I had a connection. “Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.” —Rumi
