Where I practice
Having grown up in North Dakota, it felt like "going home" when I attended Physician Assistant (PA) school in Des Moines, Iowa in 1996. I accepted my first position out of PA school with Kaiser Permanente Northwest over 15 years ago, and I have been a part of the Kaiser Permanente family ever since. My husband and I were married in 2009 and we quickly started a family. With a two little ones at our feet, finding a balance between work, family, exercising, and eating right is a challenge. Sometimes we get a little out of balance, but we forgive ourselves and continue to keep trying. We enjoy walks through the park, making waffles on Saturday mornings, bike rides (at all levels of expertise), and going to birthday parties.
About my practice
I worked full time in Salem for ten years, caring for my own panel of patients. When I got married, I transferred to the Portland area where I began doing Urgent Care type work. I see a wide range of ailments from the common cold to lacerations, mood disorders, diabetes, and more. After I had children, I was fortunate to be able to reduce my hours to part time. I value the ability to be a good listener with my patients and staff, and believe touch can be a powerful tool for some patients. I feel fortunate to work for Kaiser Permanente and am grateful for the resources it provides me to be the best care provider I can be.
How I thrive
Thriving is much harder these days with two small children. When I had more time, I loved to garden, exercise, and try new recipes. These things have been significantly (but not completely) replaced by play groups, Mom groups, making birthday cakes, and as many trips to the playground as possible. I enjoy dates with my husband, watching Portland Trailblazer games, spending time with friends and extended family, and laying in bed at the end of a long day reading my book.
