Where I practice
I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, where most Sunday evenings my family would spend with my grandparents. My grandfather had gone to Washington, DC for medical school which he completed in 3 years so that he could be sent to the Pacific for WWII. After returning home he became a family doctor in rural Utah prior to specializing in eye surgery and moving to Salt Lake City. We were kindred spirits. I loved to hear him share his experiences in medical school, in Japan, and in his career. I chose to become a doctor because I share my grandfather's excitement for science and the body. I love to use my knowledge to help people.
About my practice
I am a Cardiac Anesthesiologist. I take care of patients for cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery. My care of the patient begins prior to surgery and extends into the post-operative period. I utilize specialized monitors including arterial lines, central lines, pulmonary artery catheters, and transesophageal echocardiography to optimize hemodynamic monitoring. All patients and families are anxious when they or their loved ones are having surgery. I want every patient and their families to understand and feel comfortable with the care I'm providing. I don't mind spending extra time to make sure we all understand each other. It gives me great satisfaction to know that my Kaiser Pemanente colleagues in Anesthesiology, Surgery, and Cardiology feel the same way.
How I thrive
I love to try new things with my family. I love to cook a new dish and share it with my family. I love to plant a new plant in our yard. Since moving to the Northwest, my family has tried to find a new hike or new park each week. It is fun to discover new things and even more fun to watch my kids make new discoveries. So far, we are big fans of waterfalls, tidepools, and old growth forests.
