About me
I was born and raised in the Willamette Valley and enjoyed having the best of both worlds: the close-knit small, rural community and access to the cultural opportunities found in the nearby cities. After moving to the East Coast for my predoctoral internship, I remained there for eight years, starting both a family and my post-graduate career. I returned to the Northwest in 2006 and can’t imagine wanting to live anywhere else. I attended the University of Oregon for my undergraduate work, majoring in psychology and sociology. I completed my master’s and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology at Pacific University. I have worked in a variety of settings in the field over the last 20-plus years, including at several universities and in private practice, before joining Kaiser Permanente in 2015. My preferred pronouns are she/her/hers.
About my practice
Curiosity has been a driving force throughout my life, leading me to the field of psychology. I see therapy as a creative, collaborative process that works best when everyone brings their expertise to identify and address current challenges. I have expertise in both psychology and the "how to" of helping people change. As a therapist, I am active and engaged with members in identifying not just the challenges, but also the strength and skills the member already possesses and building from them. I work using an integrated model of therapy, blending different modalities based on the presenting issues of members. Among the therapy models I use are rational emotive behavior therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, narrative therapy, and interpersonal neurobiology.
- Culturally specific care: affirming care for LGBTQIA, non-binary; transgender
- Population specialties: adolescents, aging, and adults
- Language capacity: English
- Areas of focus: Anxiety, Depression, Mood, PTSD, life transitions, and grief
How I thrive
I thrive when I’m able to feed my curiosity and spend time with family and friends. I’m always striving to find the right balance between the need for quiet time at home and seeking a new adventure out in the world. At home you might find me reading, gardening, working on home improvement projects, crafting (especially all things fiber-based), and having fun with the family and dog. If I’m out seeking a new adventure you might find me cycling (slowly), downhill skiing (badly), kayaking (praying not to fall in), travelling, or enjoying a meal out. Most workdays, you’ll find me out walking with my co-workers during lunch, which allows me time to reconnect with people I enjoy and move my body before my afternoon starts.
