Where I practice
I was raised near the town of Clatskanie in rural Oregon. I have wonderful memories of working on a large blueberry farm, spending time in the woods and on the Columbia River. I first became interested in medicine while living in Venezuela. I started investigating the medical field by working as a certified nursing assistant. One thing led to another until I found myself enrolled in medical school at Oregon Health and Sciences University. Following years of medical school and residency training, I found myself back where I started, working in a hospital near the community where I was raised.
About my practice
I love my practice as a hospital based physician. I enjoy meeting new people each day where I provide information, healing, and comfort. Most of my patients are either experiencing an unexpected illness or are dealing with progressive diseases that will lead to the end of their life. The most common illnesses I encounter include pneumonia, cardiac conditions, stroke, cancer, gastrointestinal problems, and severe mental illness. Commonly, I assist the surgical service by managing medications for patients with complex medical problems. My practice gives me the chance to show compassion, laugh, and be a friend to someone in a foreign environment.
How I thrive
I thrive by seeking balance between family, service, spiritual growth, work, and recreation. In my spare time I coach soccer, basketball, and support youth groups including the Boy Scouts of America. Personally, I enjoy being out-of-doors in quiet surroundings. I love to observe wildlife and work on my tree farm. One of my most satisfying accomplishments was conducting a salvage logging operation and replanting 30,000 trees. I hope to contribute to the success of the next generation by teaching and living the values of work ethic, kindness, and forgiveness.
