About me
I was born and raised near St. Louis, Missouri, but also lived in Atlanta, Georgia, and Santa Fe, New Mexico, before settling here in Eugene. Medicine is a second career for me; before medical school, I had a wonderful career as a public health epidemiologist, with great experiences at the state, federal, and international level. My experiences of working on a statewide smoking cessation program, helping conduct disease investigations with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and working on polio eradication efforts eventually led me back to an endeavor to combine the fields of public health and medicine.
About my practice
I was always drawn to the full-scope practice of family medicine and love the breadth of medical challenges it provides on a daily basis. Each patient has a unique story to tell, and it is my job to truly hear it; not just symptoms and concerns, but also past fears, successes, and new health goals. Only then can I help coach them through shared decision-making and evidence-based medicine on their way to their best achievable health status. I often say to my patients, "Let's make sure we get your top concerns addressed today, before I get to my own agenda." It's important that a patient gets their issue addressed, but also that they know we are looking at the "bird's eye view" of their total well-being. I appreciate seeing all ages in the office and generally treat all medical conditions, including acute illnesses and complex chronic medical cases (e.g., diabetes, congestive heart failure, COPD). I enjoy sports medicine conditions and appreciate getting patients back to their most active states. I appreciate that Kaiser Permanente supports me as a doctor so that I can keep my attention on YOU.
How I thrive
In my spare time, I focus on my wife and 3 school-aged children. We are an active family who likes to hike, camp, ski, and generally be outdoors. I love to travel and have a personal goal to see every national park in the country. We value the incredible community of Eugene and love to explore it and the surrounding areas with family and friends. I try to thrive through fitness, including efforts to run the Eugene Half-Marathon annually and biking and playing soccer. I enjoy working with my hands, too, in building small projects and oil painting.

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other KFHP (Kaiser Foundation Health Plan) products and lines of business. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans’ contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of members’ KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.

Referrals to affiliated community physicians/providers in Oregon and Washington
Affiliated community physicians/providers are not part of the NWPMG (Northwest Permanente Medical Group). They are physicians/providers credentialed by Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Northwest and/or who have a contract with the NWPMG.
If your NWPMG physician decides that you require covered services not available internally from an NWPMG physician, he or she may refer you to an affiliated community physician/provider. You must have a written, authorized referral from Kaiser Permanente in order to receive a covered service from an affiliated community physician/provider.
Referrals to affiliated community dentists in Oregon and Washington
Affiliated community dentists are not part of PDA (Permanente Dental Associates). They are dentists credentialed by PDA for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Northwest, and they have a contract with PDA.
If your PDA dentist decides that you require covered services not available internally from a PDA dentist, he or she may refer you to an affiliated community dentist. You must have a written, authorized referral from Kaiser Permanente in order to receive a covered service from an affiliated community dentist.
