Where I practice
I have lived in Portland for more than 15 years; I originally moved here to complete my master's degree in English. I have been involved in the mental health field for the past 13 years — first as an administrator for a mental health education program. In 2011 I completed my master's degree in social work. I was drawn to this work out of a desire to promote equity and trauma-informed practice in health care settings. My career started at the Portland VA Hospital, where I worked in the Mental Health Clinic as an intern, before transitioning within the organization to supportive housing and case management for homeless veterans. I then transitioned to the VA Substance Abuse Treatment Program; this therapeutic work deeply resonated with me.
About my practice
I work with patients in the primary care setting, focusing on brief interventions and eliciting behavior change for any condition that is affecting their health and well-being. My heart has been in helping people through their change process with substance use concerns. However, I have maintained a curiosity about primary care behavioral health and how this change work is translated into behavioral change for patients of all ages, particularly in the form of earlier intervention strategies for mental and physical wellness. My hope is to integrate my mental health and addiction treatment passions into serving a diverse primary care population, exploring the connection between behaviors and the health and well-being of the body, mind, and spirit.
