Where I practice
I am originally from the Chicago suburbs and attended the University of Notre Dame. I briefly lived in the Southeast when I worked for two years as an Americorps volunteer high school teacher. Upon completion of my teaching degree, I fulfilled my dream to enroll in medical school at the University of Illinois in Chicago. I moved to the Northwest to do my internal medicine residency at Oregon Health and Science University, and I have been practicing with Kaiser Permanente since 2005. I first worked exclusively at Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center, but now I spend the bulk of my clinical time taking care of Kaiser Permanente patients at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. My wife and I devote our free time to taking care of our two young boys.
About my practice
I enjoy working as a hospital based physician because it affords me opportunities to deliver care for my patients at a time when they are acutely ill. Additionally, I also pride myself on communication with families, specialists, nurses and other services who have a vested interest in helping my patient recover. Often, coordinating communication is one of the most important jobs I perform as we navigate together through a hospital admission. I enjoy working within our integrated system because I know that my clinical impressions are available to every single member of the Kaiser Permanente team.
How I thrive
I have been able to keep a sense of balance in my life by focusing on the relationships that are important to me. I consider it a privilege to take care of my patients in the hospital. In addition, I am fortunate that many of my professional colleagues are also counted as my personal friends. Finally, my wife's unending support has helped me tremendously through medical school, residency, and my professional career.
