About me

I grew up in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, where I lived until moving to San Francisco to study medicine. During medical school it became clear that pediatrics was going to be the right work for me. I had always found joy working with children, but it was observing the love and sacrifice of parents and caregivers in their relationships with their children that moved me to choose pediatrics. While in San Francisco, I met my future wife, and when it was time to move back to Minnesota to finish my training in pediatrics, she generously agreed to join me there. Twelve cold winters later, it came time for our family (which by then included two boys and a dog) to move back west, closer to the ocean and mountains, and to warmer winters. We are thrilled to be in Portland and enjoy exploring this beautiful city and state.

About my practice

It is a great privilege to be a primary care pediatrician. I value the opportunity to spend years building trust and meaningful relationships with parents and their children. The strength of these relationships is important to providing good health care, and it’s also the most rewarding aspect of this work. I also value working with families of varied backgrounds and life experiences — in particular, families who have immigrated to the United States from other countries. While families come to clinic with their own questions for me, I find I learn just as much from them as they share their knowledge and experiences. I have experience leading a nutrition and healthy lifestyle course for children and families. I am passionate about helping families find creative ways to bring more delicious, healthy foods and fun physical activity into their lives.

How I thrive

Connecting with my family, community, and nature is how I thrive. I enjoy camping and exploring local parks with my wife, our sons, and our dog. I love running and have found it is another great way to learn about and connect with the place you live. I appreciate spending time at home, chasing the boys around the house, getting to know our neighbors, and just being there. Finally, I love going to the movies. When the lights dim as the show is about to start, and you can smell the fresh popcorn — that’s my happy place.
