Where I practice
I grew up on Cape Cod, a peninsula in Massachusetts that juts out into the Atlantic Ocean. My childhood there instilled a love of the ocean — especially swimming and sailing small boats. After high school, I moved to Washington, D.C., where I completed both college and medical school at George Washington University. I chose to become a physician because it is fascinating and gives me the privilege of helping others in my community. After completing medical training, I worked for 12 years as an emergency medicine physician in the Washington, D.C., area. In 2015, my partner and I visited Portland for the first time and immediately fell in love with the city and the Pacific Northwest. We knew that we wanted to make our home here, which we did, in 2018.
About my practice
Kaiser Permanente’s urgent care clinics are an important and convenient resource for our members. My training in emergency medicine has shown me that early evaluation and treatment can often prevent complications and speed healing. I enjoy treating the wide spectrum of conditions we see in the urgent care setting. I listen carefully to my patients, in order to provide the best possible care. I like to explain my thought process, so that patients leave the clinic understanding not only the “what” of the treatment plan, but also the “why.”
How I thrive
I believe that connection with others is central to building a happy and fulfilling life. For me, this comes in many forms — such as attending concerts with friends and sharing meals with my family. I also love to exercise in a group setting, such as CrossFit workouts. In addition, I enjoy reading and discussing books with others, because it provides the opportunity to share new ideas.
