Where I practice
I was born in San Diego, California, and my father, a retired U.S. Navy Captain, lives there still. But I also grew up in the Carolinas, where my mother's family's roots are planted. I have one sibling, my sister, who is a nurse in Los Angeles. I decided upon a career in medicine while I was a college sophomore, which wasn't long after my mother died from cancer. I came to Portland to train at Oregon Health & Science University, and I've been here ever since.
About my practice
My practice focuses on "solid tumor" oncology, which includes the more common cancer types such as breast, lung, colon, and prostate. I serve on Kaiser Permanente's Genitourinary Task Force and have a particular interest in prostate, renal, bladder, and testicular cancers. My philosophy is to consider each person as a unique individual and to apply the science of medicine in a humane and effective manner. I am a believer in evidence-based medicine, and when possible I will advise my members to participate in clinical trials so that we can improve the science and hopefully find tomorrow's cure. I give advice to my members in partnership, so that they might live their lives to the fullest in whichever manner they prefer.
How I thrive
I believe we need to live each day to the fullest capacity. For me, this includes working as an oncologist but also includes spending time with family and friends and staying physically active by running, biking, and playing tennis. You might also find me salmon fishing in Nehalem Bay or fly fishing on the Deschutes River. Most of all, I think we need to recognize the blessings that are present in our lives each day.
