About me

Biography

I was born in Portland, OR but grew up across the river in the Vancouver, WA area. I have since returned to the to Oregon where I currently live with my husband and daughter. I have always loved living in the Pacific Northwest, and have enjoyed cultivating my professional career in various counties within the state. I began my professional career as an intern at the Kaiser Permanente's Addiction Medicine Department. I made a large transition to working in a rural community in Columbia County after completing my Master's degree. Working in community mental health I was exposed to many different mental health populations and became exceptionally interested in working with those who suffer from severe mental illness, addiction issues, incarceration and those involved in specialty treatment courts. I then transitioned to working at Providence St. Vincent's Eating Disorder Program. You could say I have an affinity for working with some treatment resistant illnesses. I have always found the human condition to be a fascinating area of focus. From a young age I knew that I wanted to work with people to help them break through whatever emotional or social barriers they have been experiencing.

About my practice

Currently in my therapy practice with Kaiser Permanente I am a Generalist Therapist. Under this umbrella however I have special training and experience treating: - Substance Use Disorders - Eating Disorders - Anxiety and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder - Trauma and Stress Related Disorders - Depressive Disorders -Adjustment Disorders Most of my work in the field of mental health has been with adults (ages 18+) and adolescents (ages 13-17). In relation to my philosophy and approach to therapy, I believe that therapy is a collaborative process between the patient and therapist. I believe that therapy is a tool within a person's recovery journey, no matter what the disorder or difficulty a person is struggling with. I believe therapy is effective if a patient is invested in the journey and the process. I believe in utilizing motivational interventions to help patient's work through their ambivalence about making difficult changes in their life that will guide them to a healthier and happier place. As a therapist I recognize the importance of trust and open communication that happens between a therapist and their patients. I utilize evidence based theories within my practice. Much of my interventions come from the following theories: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Family-Based Treatment (adolescent eating disorders).

How I thrive

I thrive by spending intentional time with my family, and focusing on my health and wellness through exercise, and spending time outdoors, going on walks or long drives with my husband. I enjoy watching documentaries of all sorts, reading biographies, or stories about human resiliency. Like most of us in the area the Oregon Coast, and the Columbia River Gorge are wonderful places I enjoy escaping to from time to time. Anything in my free time that is a "me vs. myself" opportunity brings me joy and purpose as well, whether it's running, weightlifting, or learning a new skill. This feeds my desire for continued growth and development as a human being.
