Durable medical equipment in the Mid-Atlantic States

Durable Medical Equipment (DME) provides in-home therapeutic benefits to a patient with certain medical conditions and/or illnesses. DME is available to Kaiser Permanente members through third-party suppliers in your region.

DME includes, but is not limited to, wheelchairs, traction equipment, canes, crutches, walkers, kidney machines, ventilators, oxygen, monitors, pressure mattresses, lifts, nebulizers, bili blankets and bili lights.

In most cases, you must have a referral from your primary care physician to obtain Durable Medical Equipment from a supplier on this list. Contact your doctor’s office to request a referral. If your doctor determines that DME is medically necessary, then you will be authorized to obtain DME as covered by your Kaiser Permanente health plan.

In some cases, a referral may not be required for certain equipment and you may contact the supplier directly. Ask your doctor for information.

Note: Durable Medical Equipment coverage is limited to the standard item of equipment that adequately meets your medical need. Kaiser Permanente will determine whether to rent or purchase the equipment, and select the supplier. For questions about your Durable Medical Equipment coverage, please call 1-888-777-5536.
