About me

I was born in Los Angeles, California and raised in rural Washington State. I did my undergraduate studies in Nursing at the University of Portland and obtained my Masters’ degree in Nurse Midwifery from the University of Pennsylvania. In the years that followed, I was fortunate to have had the privilege to provide nursing and midwifery care to women in many diverse and unique communities - including time spent with the old order Amish of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and a number of years lived working with the Navajo people in the high desert mesas of northwestern New Mexico. The core tenet that drew me to nursing was a desire to help other people. I was later introduced to midwifery when as a young nurse both a good friend and my older sister had midwives attend the births of their children. I was moved by these two experiences and with the encouragement of a mentor, I decided then that I too would direct my career towards this special practice focused on working with women.

About my practice

One of my favorite things about being a midwife is listening and learning from my patients. I believe that our physical, emotional and spiritual wellness each impacts our overall health. Thus, by listening to my patients’ concerns and providing them with all of the necessary information, I hope I can create a special connection based on mutual respect and openness. I enjoy the professional excellence and true collegiality that is found in working with the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group, and am excited to practice in an environment that is centered around evidence and a desire to provide our patients with the highest quality of care possible.

How I thrive

In this beautiful state it is fun to be outside and active; I love going for hikes and boogie boarding with my family on free weekends, and have also found the energy to join early morning “boot camp” classes held most days in our neighborhood park. At the same time, I cherish any free time for myself; I like to spend this quilting, playing the piano, reading or watching movies. But most of all I like finding the space to spend quality time with my husband and 4 children.

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.

A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
