About me
I was born and raised in Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii. My father emigrated from Japan to pursue his dreams, and through his life he demonstrated what hard work and perseverance can achieve. He encouraged me and made it possible for me to pursue my dreams of becoming a physician. Unfortunately, he died just before I completed medical school. However, I remain truly thankful for the sacrifices he made on my, and my families behalf. I try to honor his memory by trying to live according to the values he instilled in me.
About my practice
As a teenager I worked in a pediatric medical office and at the local hospital. I was amazed at the ability of physicians to improve someone’s health and well-being. However, what impressed me the most about the art of medicine was the power that personal interactions and relationships between physician and patient can have on healing. Pediatrics as a specialty allows me the privilege to participate in the developmental process of an individual from birth to adulthood. I see pediatrics as a way to support children and families through both happy and difficult times. My professional affiliations include membership in the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Hawaii chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Currently I am also involved in writing chapters for the revised edition of the pediatric textbook used at the John A. Burns School of Medicine. To stay up-to-date in my field I attend local conferences and read professional journals such as Pediatrics and Pediatrics in Review. Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG) is strong, cohesive, and innovative. I love how the organization supports its physicians and patients, and is always striving to improve. Coming from private practice, I was amazed to see that HPMG has already effectively adopted the methods of Patient Centered Medical Home to the benefit of physicians and patients. My philosophy is to provide patient-centered, comprehensive, and compassionate care. Acting as an advocate for my patients and their families is very rewarding for me, and I strive to support them to the best of my abilities. Among my favorite patient interactions are well baby and children physicals. They provide me the time and opportunity to learn about my patients and their families beyond their physical ailments. It is exciting to see children grow and develop their own unique personalities. I enjoy learning about what new interests they have and activities they are involved in. I love to ask questions, and I love when patients ask me questions. I find this to be a wonderful avenue to find out about each other. I like to share stories about my own experiences as a physician and mother.
How I thrive
In my spare time I enjoy swimming and indoor cycling. Also, my patients often see me running in the neighborhood and will wave and beep at me. Spending time with my husband and son helps keep me centered. As a family we go to the beach and the zoo, and we look forward to visits with our extended Hilo family.

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
