Where I practice
I was born in Baltimore, Maryland. After graduating from college, I worked as a high school teacher for two years. During that time I met my future wife, who’s from Hawaii. I later went back to school for my medical degree at Thomas Jefferson University’s Sidney Kimmel Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I went on to complete a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Mountain Area Health Education Center at the University of North Carolina, where I was chief resident.
About my practice
In choosing my career, I knew that I wanted to work in a field that would allow me to make a positive impact on people's lives, and I was impressed by the strong relationships physicians build with their patients. I enjoy becoming a trusted partner and guide and eventually seeing my patients recover and regain their health. I was also intrigued by the science involved with the medical profession and the opportunity it provided for ongoing learning and intellectual challenge.
To stay current in my field and in medicine overall, I read several professional journals, access online medical resources, attend medical conferences both in Hawaii and on the mainland, and consult my colleagues. I also maintain membership in the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and I serve as a member of the advisory council in Hawaii.
I was always drawn to the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group because of its emphasis on high-quality care, teamwork, and physician wellness. Providers, staff, systems, and technology all work together here for the good of our patients. It’s a pleasure to work with such highly competent, dedicated professionals in a stimulating and supportive environment.
My approach to care delivery is to treat people the way I'd want my own family to be treated. Listening to patients’ concerns is very important in developing treatment plans and goals.
How I thrive
To stay both physically fit and mentally grounded, I practice martial arts with my daughter and Coach a local club. I also try to read and meditate regularly. Spending time relaxing with friends and family recharges me for the week ahead.
