About me
I was born and raised in Los Angeles but frequently visited Honolulu to see my grandparents and relatives. My parents grew up on Oahu – my father in Kaimuki and my mother in Manoa. I enjoyed going to many family potlucks and making trips to the beach during my stays in the islands.
For college, I headed east to Providence, Rhode Island, where I attended Brown University – majoring in English literature and studying abroad in London. I remained at Brown for medical school, extending my stay on the East Coast, where I enjoyed the seasons and occasional snowy weather.
Following medical school, I returned to L.A., completing my internship and residency training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. After that, I worked as a hospitalist for 3 years at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City, which was a busy and energetic experience in a vibrant and diverse city. After my time in New York, I moved to Hawaii to be closer to family and began working as a hospitalist at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center in 2007.
About my practice
I've enjoyed working as a hospitalist because it allows me to get to know and help patients during some of their most challenging moments – when they face acute illnesses that require hospitalization. Even though our time together is often brief, building and sustaining relationships in these shortened periods is incredibly fulfilling. It's been a privilege to provide care in this environment and to support patients on their health journey.
While working as a hospitalist, I developed an interest in not only treating acute illnesses but also in moving treatment upstream to prevent these conditions altogether. I recognized that applying preventive care and innovative technology could help our members avoid many acute problems I saw in the hospital setting. In 2016, I joined the informatics team after observing significant hospital improvements resulting from specialized tools in our electronic health records system. Since then, I've become an active part of the informatics and evidence-based medicine teams. I currently serve as the Clinical Decision Support Lead, Inpatient Clinical Lead, and Guideline Director for Kaiser Permanente Hawaii.
I’m currently board-certified in internal medicine and clinical informatics. Recently, I transitioned my practice from hospital-based to clinic-based care, joining the urgent care department. This transition has allowed me to care for patients with acute issues with a clinic-based approach. I enjoy the collaboration I experience in urgent care, working as part of a unified team with nursing, pharmacy, and other staff to provide high-quality and efficient care for our patients.
How I thrive
Though I occasionally miss the seasons from my time on the East Coast, settling in Hawaii and raising a family here has been wonderful. We enjoy swimming, hiking, beach time, traveling, and winter trips to go snowboarding/skiing.

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
