Where I practice
I grew up in Los Angeles and went to the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in New York state for my medical education. After graduation, I returned to California for my residency ophthalmology at the Doheny Eye Institute/Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center, where I also completed two fellowships – one in neuro-ophthalmology and one in ophthalmic plastic, orbital, and reconstructive surgery. My husband and I wanted to raise our children in a place where we could spend our free time outdoors and in a culture that values family and community. Hawaii fits that description perfectly, and we’re delighted to have settled here.
About my practice
While I was growing up, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to witness my father, a physician, demonstrating compassion for his patients and a love for his profession. My admiration for him and his work drew me to a career that would allow me to contribute to the well-being of those in my community. My interest in ophthalmology as a medical specialty arose one summer when I worked in an eye hospital in India. I saw the profound effect that proper eye care had on people's quality of life. I also enjoyed the mix of medicine and surgery practiced in this field. I’m a member of the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society. To keep up-to-date in my field, I attend professional conferences both locally and on the Mainland, read medical journals, participate in continuing education programs, and consult with colleagues. The Hawaii Permanente Medical Group places a strong emphasis on service to the community and overall health, which matches my own interests and personal approach to medicine. I also appreciate the collaboration among physicians from various specialties, and their dedication to ensuring patients are active participants in decision-making about their treatment options. I strive always to listen closely to my patients – to try to understand their concerns and fears – so that I can respond in a helpful way. It’s my belief that lives can be improved by treatment even if a complete cure isn’t possible.
How I thrive
My favorite pastime is spending time with my wonderful husband and beautiful boys. In my free time away from work, I stay in shape by playing football and chasing after my two very active children.
