About me

Biography

I was born near the Military Academy at West Point, to a military family. I joined the Medical Corps of the Army for the same reason I became a physician -- to help people in need. I very much enjoy meeting new people, whether in the office as patients, or traveling. Every person has a wonderful and unique story to tell, and I love to listen. As Emerson said, "Every man is eloquent once in his life."

About my practice

I never forget that the Latin root of the word patient means, "one who suffers." It is a privilege, thanks to indulgent faculties at the University of Vermont and Yale, for me to be able to intercede on behalf of sick or worried patients. To treat the sick is a corporal work of mercy, a blessing at the same time to he who gives and to him who is served. Nothing human is alien to me.

How I thrive

I have to remain mentally and physically fit for three reasons. First, the work of a surgeon is physically demanding. Second, in order to inspire patients, it helps if the doctor himself shows that it's possible to eat in moderation, exercise regularly and balance all the competing forces in life. Lastly, I never know when the Army may call again, and I have to keep up with all those 20-year old soldiers!
