Where I practice
Welcome to my Web page. I am a board certified pulmonary and critical care physician at Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills Medical Center. I am glad to have this opportunity share information about myself, my medical practice, and how I thrive.
I was born in Mexico but spent my formative years in Miami, FL. In high school, I developed a love of chemistry, and I earned a B.S. in chemistry at MIT. I attended medical school at USC, where I was introduced to medical research and performed clinical studies in patients with HIV. After that, I completed my internal medicine residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where I realized that pulmonary and critical care medicine combined my love of science with a desire to improve patient care. I then pursued fellowship training at UCLA. Because of my love of research, I obtained a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Pathology and did basic science research in iron metabolism. I was also director of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Training Program at UCLA.
About my practice
My current practice consists of consultation and management of people with lung conditions who are either seen in my office or while they are hospitalized. I care for people in the intensive care unit, elsewhere in the hospital, and in my office. Our office staff is experienced and committed to providing kind, professional, and timely assistance. My colleagues in the department are available to assist you during those times that I am not available in the office. Because of my research background and interest in basic science, I strive to keep abreast of new developments in pulmonary and critical care medicine that can help patients. I am passionate about evidence-based medicine and statistics, but understand that patients are not statistics.
How I thrive
I love to cook, specializing in desserts, smoking, and molecular gastronomy. My wife and I love trying new restaurants. We also love wine and are love travel to wine regions around the world. I swim, bicycle ride, run and participate in circuit training. I love spending time outdoors with my wife and our five children. I dabble in woodworking, and I love to reading current fiction.
