About me

My name is Dr. Sauhang Patel, and it is an honor to welcome you to my Web page! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to explain a little bit more about myself and my practice as an obstetrics and gynecology (ob/gyn) physician. I hope the information below is the start of a great collaboration toward your continued reproductive health.

Biography

I was born in Los Angeles but grew up throughout Southern California. After completing high school in Fontana, I enrolled at UC Irvine for my bachelor’s degree in biological sciences. I was always naturally gifted in science and had a passion for trying to understand how the world works around us. After graduation, I went to the American University of the Caribbean’s School of Medicine in Cupecoy, St. Maarten. Not knowing exactly what I wanted to do, I kept an open mind through clinical rotations. After doing several rotations through different specialties of practice, I realized ob/gyn was my calling. As an ob/gyn physician, I can walk members through almost every stage and age in life. I can also care for both the surgical and clinical needs of a member. It is a rewarding specialty that allows for nearly a lifelong experience with members. For my residency, I went to the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, New York. Working and training in a level one trauma center during my residency really helped me to learn practical application of knowledge, especially when working with patients from diverse backgrounds. In my final year there, I served as the administrative chief resident. I then decided to move back home to California. My spouse and I found opportunities in Bakersfield, and we both enjoyed the smaller community feel. I took a position as a physician for the San Dimas Medical Group, where I held several positions, including medical director and as a member of the executive committee. I worked there for nearly 8 years before joining Kaiser Permanente in Kern County.

About my practice

The best care outcomes happen when the member’s voice is reflected in the decision-making process. Before anything, I want to hear from you and understand your perspective of what you are experiencing. From there, we will work together to find out the options that will meet your therapeutic goals. Building trust is at the center of how I practice medicine, and I believe that comes from getting to know members outside of what is in their medical records and staying up to date with the latest information and knowledge.

How I thrive

I firmly believe in “practice what you preach.” I work just as hard to prioritize my own physical and mental health as I encourage members to. I am passionate about finding that balance between work and personal life. I find that exercise and being physically active help me decompress and reset to my center. I have started to run again and am currently working my way up to a full marathon and maybe will even consider a triathlon. As much fun as I have spending time out and about with my family and friends, I am a true introvert at heart and would just as much enjoy spending the evening playing video games — especially those that are narrative-driven experiences.
