About me
I am a board-certified physiatrist, a physician specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation. This is a unique specialty that focuses on a myriad of musculoskeletal conditions and that aims to treat people as holistically as possible.
Biography
After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Wesleyan University in Connecticut, I taught yoga in New York City before deciding on a career in medicine. I attended Columbia University’s Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program, and subsequently went to USC’s Keck School of Medicine. Determined to stay in sunny Southern California, I completed my training in Los Angeles and was chief resident at the UCLA/VA Multicampus program.
About my practice
After residency, I worked in a multidisciplinary spine group, and then in solo practice performing electrodiagnostic studies, before joining Kaiser Permanente in 2020. Working in occupational medicine, I see workers who have been injured on the job. My starting point is to hone in on the diagnosis and pain generator. After a careful history and physical examination, my job is to find the best prescription for the person who is sitting in front of me. My job as the physician is to guide you and to hold your hand, so to speak. Medicine is an incredibly personal, complex, and nuanced profession, and I am grateful to be your partner in this journey.
How I thrive
In my younger days, I was an adventure enthusiast: I scaled Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro, became a certified spinning instructor, and never shied away from a weekend 5k or 10k. While I am no longer this active, I still make time for daily exercise and to pay attention to nutrition, as these are the building blocks of our cellular constitution and overall well-being. I strongly believe that, in order to impart health to members, it is up to me to model healthy habits.
As important as it is to care for the physical body, it is equally vital to care for the internal self. I co-lead physician meditations here at Kaiser Permanente and try to infuse elements of mindfulness into both my professional and personal life.
