Welcome! My name is Raj Swaroop, and I’m a hospitalist physician at Kaiser Permanente in Orange County.
I chose to become a physician because of the opportunity to solve challenging problems and help people. My ethnicity is Indian, but I was born in the United States, and English is my first language. I also speak Spanish with moderate fluency and have cared for a substantial number of people who speak only Spanish. I was born and raised in Orange County and have spent most of my life here. I completed my medical residency in San Francisco at Kaiser Permanente’s San Francisco Medical Center. Apart from my work as a doctor, my interests include reading about almost anything, listening to music, spending time with family, and finding new ways to exercise.
I’m a physician for members who are admitted to the hospital. I also see people referred to me by their surgeons for a medical consultation. My inpatient practice includes work at our Anaheim Kraemer Medical Offices and Alton/Sand Canyon Medical Offices. I spent 10 years doing both office and hospital practice with a primary care clinic at the Euclid Medical Offices. I transitioned to full-time hospital work in October 2013. Quality improvement is a passion of mine. I’ve been a physician champion for teams that have improved pneumonia and immunization care for our hospitalized members. Currently, I’m involved in the physician peer review process, which helps our physicians get feedback on ways to improve. I believe that great health care is generally provided by great health care teams, and I’m glad our organization supports that team-building philosophy.
Exercising, relaxing, reading, and connecting with family and friends help me achieve balance. I try to follow the advice I give members, and that helps me stay healthy.
