Where I practice
Welcome to my Web page, and thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and my practice.
I grew up in the busy metropolitan town of Bombay (Mumbai as it is called now) in India. I immigrated to the U.S. many years ago and did most of my training as well as post-graduate and residency training in Minneapolis. Living through Minnesota winters was a shock to my system, but I loved the Twin Cities and have some great memories from my time there. An opportunity to move to Southern California came several years ago, and I have never looked back. This beautiful and warm city now feels more like home. I love the diversity here and the ability to enjoy nature at its best.
About my practice
Choosing the field of psychiatry was natural to me. I believe that the mind helps make us who we are and strengthening our mind can help us face any challenges—physical and emotional. The advances we have made in medicine and in understanding the brain makes practicing psychiatry very exciting in today’s times. I believe in working in collaboration with my patients to come up with a plan for treatment. Although medications help and are important in many circumstances, I do believe that psychotherapy is equally important, as is a healthy lifestyle. I try to include all of this in my treatment plan. I have a special interest in working with trauma victims and an interest and training in reproductive psychiatry (issues dealing with pregnancy, postpartum, and other reproductive transitions).
How I thrive
My family is very important to me in helping me stay happy and grounded. We are often found hiking on nature trails in between soccer games and horseback riding lessons. I find cooking and painting (or any art form) very therapeutic. I have just started some nature photography and writing. I exercise regularly, which helps me stay energized and focused.
