About me

Hi! I am Dr. Katrina De Castro Llamas, a family medicine doctor, and I am very grateful to be a part of the Kaiser Permanente family.

Biography

I grew up in the Philippines and moved to the United States in 2007 to pursue my dream of becoming a medical doctor. What influenced me to pursue this noble career were my experiences as a patient when I was a kid. I suffered from persistent bronchial asthma and was brought a million times to the hospital. My doctors told my parents that I might not recover because I was just too sickly. But they did not give up on me, and so I became better. This inspired me to become a doctor, so I, too, may be able to heal the ones who are sick. I studied medicine at Davao Medical School Foundation in my hometown and did my internship in 2004 at Makati Medical Center in Manila. In 2007, I got accepted to Akron General Medical Center for my family medicine residency training, where I served as a co-chief resident in my senior year. I moved to Bakersfield in 2010 and worked in a community health center for four years before I joined Kaiser Permanente.

About my practice

I pursued a career in family medicine because I love taking care of the whole family. I firmly believe that getting to know each family member, as well as understanding their family dynamics, will help me distinguish the factors that affect my patients—not only medically but also psychologically and emotionally. I am a very good listener, and I respect and value each of my patient’s decisions on how to approach his or her medical issues. Including them on the team makes them more responsible and more knowledgeable with their disease conditions. With this holistic approach, the body, mind, and spirit will surely heal fruitfully.

How I thrive

I live a balanced life by following a healthy diet, exercising five to six times a week, and making sure that I have seven to eight hours of sleep. Sushi is my comfort food, so I almost always have it at the end of a busy workweek. During the summer, I enjoy road trips with my better half. We both love the beach, sun, and the sand!
