Where I practice
Welcome to my Web page! I’m very proud to be a physician here at Kaiser Permanente, and I hope that the information below gives you a little insight into who I am as a person and as a physician.
I was born in Colorado, but have lived in Southern California for most of my life. I come from a family of teachers and, like them, decided to help people for a living. I became the first medical doctor in my family. I did my undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley, and really enjoyed experiencing Northern California. I then went to the East Coast where I did my medical training for seven years in New York. I loved learning the culture and experiencing East Coast weather for the first time. However, once I finished my training, my family and long-term friends drew me back to Southern California to settle.
About my practice
I think the human body is amazing! I especially love how the muscles, nerves, and bones all work together to allow us to function, walk, run, and play sports. This is why I was drawn to the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation, and its subspecialty of pain management. In this field, our goal is to help people resume functioning in their daily lives. I like how this includes a multidisciplinary approach. This team approach often includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, acupuncture, medications, and injections. We try to manage the pain and decrease the level of suffering. This can be quite rewarding and is often very challenging. There’s never a dull moment.
How I thrive
I’ve been involved in sports my whole life and I love to exercise! I love the camaraderie and friendships that you experience while playing team sports, and I love the way my body feels during and after exercise. I especially love cardio kickboxing, core strength training, yoga, bike riding, tennis, and skiing—both in water and snow. I enjoy traveling and learning about different cultures and ways of life. Finally, I’m a social butterfly, and I’m at my best when spending time with those I love—whether we’re dining out, watching a movie, or just being together.
