About me
Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself and share my ophthalmology practice and history. I am excited every day to be a part of the Kaiser Permanente team as we are on the forefront of vitreoretinal surgical practice. With years of experience in private practice as well as teaching fellows and residents, I have gained unique skills and perspectives, and I wholly believe in Kaiser Permanente’s approach to medicine.
Biography
I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. I then went on to earn my medical degree at Boston University. I completed my ophthalmology residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, where I served as chief resident and received the Kings County Resident of the Year Award and the Richard C. Troutman Award for academic excellence. During my training there, I was also awarded the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology Research Award and the SUNY Downstate Research Award. I subsequently completed a 2-year fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the USC Roski Eye Institute. I was awarded the prestigious Vit-Buckle Society Best Fellow Surgical Award 2 years in a row. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, I was in private practice at Retina-Vitreous Associates (LA Retina) and was assistant clinical professor and vitreoretinal fellowship co-director at USC Roski Eye Institute. I have published in multiple journals and book chapters, and I developed a surgical technique to improve visualization during pars plana vitrectomy.
About my practice
I see members with conditions and diseases of the retina, macula, uvea, and vitreous. I believe in treating members the same way I would treat my own relatives — balancing risks and benefits and seeing members as people, not just their conditions or diseases.
Surgery is my passion, and I find joy in the artistic and creative side of managing vitreoretinal disease through surgery and procedures.
How I thrive
My wife and I love surfing as well as staying active and eating healthy. I try to practice what I preach, especially because the retina is oftentimes a reflection of overall health. We are environmentally conscious and want the best world for our children and future generations. I’ve played competitive basketball since I was young and also enjoy golf and skiing.
