Where I practice
Hello, and welcome to my Web page. I am happy to have this chance to introduce myself and tell you about my practice. I am committed to forming the best cancer care possible at Kaiser Permanente, allowing me to consider member views and needs into improving operation.
I earned my bachelor's degree in biochemistry and biophysics from the University of Houston. I spent four years at MD Anderson Cancer Center performing cancer research and completed my medical degree at Texas A&M College of Medicine in 1992. My internship and residency in internal medicine was followed by a fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University of Arizona under the direction of renowned hematologist/oncologist Dr. Sydney Salmon. I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1998 and currently serve as the chief of the Hematology/Oncology Department for Orange County, as well as regional chief at Southern California Permanente Medical Group. I am a sub investigator in many clinical research trials.
About my practice
My philosophy of practice is that of a partnership with my patients through education, shared decision-making, and support throughout treatment for the best cancer care possible. I work with a team of cancer-trained surgeons, radiation and hematology/oncology partners, and physician assistants. Several cancer coordinators, social workers, chemotherapy-certified nurses, and specialized chemotherapy pharmacists also support our patients. I offer advanced treatment through our clinical research trials program. We also support members with compassionate care through our palliative care clinic outpatient and at-home palliative or hospice services based on a member's choice for their goals of care.
How I thrive
I belong to an athletic and musically inclined family. Having children who play soccer and volleyball as well as three musicians in the family fills up my time away from work. This helps me thrive both physically and mentally. I love to hike, swim, and cook. I also love watching musicals and concerts. Being a spiritual person, I also volunteer at national cancer organizations helping patients.
