Where I practice
Welcome to my Web page. I am proud to be a member of the Allergy Department at Kaiser Permanente in San Diego. I have been a member of the department since 1989 and started here right after my fellowship in clinical immunology and allergy at UCLA.
I have an active research interest in drug allergy, asthma diagnosis, and chronic urticaria (hives), and have been published extensively. I attended graduate school in microbiology and immunology at UCLA prior to medical school. I am an assistant clinical professor of medicine in the Department of Medicine at UC San Diego and participate in medical student, medical resident, and allergy immunology fellowship training. I frequently lecture on drug allergy and asthma diagnosis. I am a fellow of the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI). I am currently the chair of the Southern California Kaiser Permanente Institutional Review Board, a committee that reviews all human-subject research performed in Kaiser Permanente’s Southern California region.
About my practice
My goals are to accurately and completely diagnose the problems of the patients I see, even if the symptoms are not directly related to an allergy or a problem with their immune system. My primary treatment for allergies is the avoidance of allergens, when possible. I strive to use the fewest medications possible to control symptoms. I actively solicit patient participation to help manage my patients’ conditions. I encourage phone calls and emails to my office to address issues. I work hard to promptly return phone calls to my office.
How I thrive
I play competitive doubles beach volleyball as my primary method of exercise. I also play tennis and do woodworking. I am married and have four adult children. We have a German pinscher at home with us now.
