About me

Aloha, and welcome to my Web page. Thanks for letting me introduce myself so that you can get to know me.

Biography

I was born and raised in Hawaii, specifically Maui. I came to California for my undergraduate degree in exercise physiology at UC Berkeley. After college, I worked for three years in the biotechnology field in the Bay Area. I then went back home to the islands and completed medical school at the University of Hawaii. From there, my adventures landed me at the historic LAC+USC Medical Center for an internship and residency in orthopedic surgery. I then completed an orthopedic foot and ankle fellowship with a leading specialist in Oakland. I am a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society.

About my practice

My specialty is in orthopedic surgery of the foot and ankle. This includes conditions relating to trauma, sports injuries, elective procedures, and complex reconstructions. Providing high-quality specialty care to you is my main focus. My goal is to make your experience as pleasant as possible. I strive to provide my patients with high-quality care through a combination of knowledge, compassion, and teamwork. From a new sports injury to a chronic condition, from a complex foot and ankle reconstructive procedure to a simple ankle sprain, I welcome any and all of your problems. I am a volunteer faculty surgeon at LAC+USC Medical Center and enjoy teaching the residents there. I also believe it is important to mentor our youngsters. I’m a physician mentor for the Hippocrates Circle Program at Kaiser Permanente, which encourages and empowers middle school children from diverse communities to consider a career in medicine.

How I thrive

I stay balanced by staying active outdoors. I love to backpack, camp, and travel around the world. Some of the things I’ve done include climbing Mt. Whitney and Mt. Shasta, hiking to Machu Picchu, Peru, and hiking the Kalalau Trail along the Napali Coast on the island of Kauai. Soccer and, more recently, Brazilian jiu-jitsu are two of the ways that I stay healthy. Another passion of mine is to travel to third-world countries for medical missions. I have done volunteer medical work in Thailand and Bhutan. Seeing a thankful patient recovering from an injury and learning to walk again is priceless.
