Allergy at South San Francisco Medical Center
By referral only
We specialize in the evaluation and treatment of children and adults with allergies, asthma, and other immunologic disorders. We offer allergy skin testing, injection therapy, and pulmonary function testing.
If testing is done at your evaluation, the appointment may take up to 2 hours. If this amount of time is not possible, we can schedule a follow up time for your allergy testing.
In preparation for skin testing, please do not take any antihistamines for 5 days before your appointment. During skin testing, a small amount of allergen is placed on either your lower arm or upper back. Once the test is applied, you’ll spend 20 minutes in our waiting room before your results are recorded. A parent or guardian must be present during the appointment for those under 18.
If you are unable to stop your antihistamines due to hives or severe allergy symptoms, please let us know. In some cases, allergy testing can be done by blood tests even if you have had an antihistamine the same day.
