I speak: English, Spanish

Where I practice
After numerous visits to Hawaii, in 2001 my wife and I moved from Florida to see if we would like to live here permanently. After a short time we were hooked by the aloha spirit and the friends that we made on the North Shore. We stayed and have never looked back.
About my practice
Medicine always fascinated me, and I cannot envision myself in any other profession. I grew up surrounded by emergency medicine—my father is an emergency physician, and my mother was a nurse manager for a large emergency department. The diversity of patients and the variety of medical and surgical cases encountered in this field made it the most attractive specialty for me.I have served as medical director for numerous professional surfing contests. At the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine in 2000 I presented a study comparing two drugs in the treatment of cocaine-associated chest pain and published the results in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine. To stay current in emergency medicine and in medicine generally, I regularly read several professional journals and attend at least one emergency medicine conference each year. In addition to English, I speak Spanish.I believe that the care delivery model envisioned by Kaiser Permanente co-founders Dr. Garfield and Henry Kaiser is unrivaled. I also enjoy practicing amongst the highly talented and gifted physicians in the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group.I believe that health is a product of multiple factors, both environmental and hereditary, and I attempt to understand patients’ unique situations in order to deliver the best care possible. I also view every patient encounter as an opportunity to meet someone new—learning about a patient's life is often the most memorable part of a visit for me.
How I thrive
In my leisure time I enjoy diving, fishing, woodworking, and golf. I also find that surfing keeps me balanced and in shape both physically and mentally. Most of all, there is nothing I enjoy more than time spent having fun with my two kids—it has been the most rewarding experience of my life to watch them change and grow.
