About me

I was born and raised in Kansas City, studied genetics at Kansas University, went to the Kansas University School of Medicine for medical training and residency, and am certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. My family and I visited the islands several times before moving here, and we’re thrilled that we can now enjoy Maui every day. Living here also brings us closer to my husband's family in the Philippines and to my best friend on Oahu!

About my practice

Biology has always fascinated me. From a young age I read book after book trying to understand how the human body was formed and how it functioned. As I got older, I learned how the body can fail us, and I decided to pursue a medical career. When I was just 16, my favorite aunt invited me into the labor room during her delivery. What an amazing privilege it was to be present at such a time in a woman’s life. I was both inspired by and envious of her obstetrician!

Ob-gyn is a diverse and rewarding specialty. From a teenager’s first visit, when I emphasize the importance of safe lifestyle practices, through the years when a woman is deciding whether or not to start a family, to encounters with postmenopausal symptoms or illness, I want to be there for my patients. My professional interests include minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, robotic surgery, high-risk obstetrics, and education and training for obstetrical emergencies.

Staying up-to-date is very important. To ensure that I’m aware of the latest practice recommendations, I attend continuing medical education courses as well as conferences sponsored by my professional organizations—the American College of Obstetricians and  Gynecologists, the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists, and the Kansas City Gynecological Society. Several times a year I serve as the lead instructor in an obstetrical emergencies course used in U.S. and European hospitals, which requires that I remain current in my field. Lastly, maintaining my certification requires that I read numerous journal articles throughout the year.

Hawaii Permanente Medical Group strives to provide safe, quality care to its patients. I was excited to join this organization and serve the community of Maui in a meaningful way.

Listening carefully to patients and empowering them with knowledge helps them make good decisions regarding their care. I like to share my personal experiences as a woman to help them see me as a human being going through many of the same things that they go through rather than just a "white coat."

How I thrive

To maintain fitness, I enjoy running, cross-training, and a monthly massage. I stay grounded by spending time with family, meditating, taking part in church activities, and traveling. I’m also fortunate to have close mentors and friends to help me through the more difficult days.

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.

A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
