About me

I was born in Taiwan and speak Mandarin Chinese. After finishing high school in San Francisco, I earned my bachelor's degree from Harvard University and received a master's degree in computer science from Yale University. I completed my medical school, internship, and residency at Tufts University in Boston.

Drawn by California's milder climate, I returned to the West Coast to complete fellowships at the University of California, San Francisco, and Stanford University. Before joining a private practice in the San Francisco Bay Area, I served on the faculty at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine.

Hawaii is ideal for me to live and work, combining stunning natural beauty with my passion for nature and outdoor activities.

About my practice

I was seeking a career that combined science and technology with the ability to improve people's lives, and medicine quickly became the obvious choice. During an assignment in a cardiac electrophysiology service, I saw firsthand how techniques in this field could dramatically change lives – correcting heart rhythm problems through surgical procedures that allowed patients to avoid lifelong drug therapies. The physician leading the service became a mentor to me and ultimately inspired my decision to specialize in cardiac electrophysiology.

Beyond my work in electrophysiology, I have a strong interest in the remote monitoring of cardiac devices, including pacemakers and defibrillators.

To keep up with medical advances, I read medical journals and reach out to other experts in my field. As a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society, I have access to the latest findings and recommendations in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology. Over the years, I've also given presentations at various conferences, and my research has appeared in professional journals.

After 16 years in private practice, I was ready to work in a well-established organization that combined many specialties under one roof and provided reliably high-quality care. I found all of this at Hawaii Permanente Medical Group.

Preventing disease is just as important as curing it. Lifestyle changes play a critical role in restoring and maintaining good health. Equally important is building mutual respect and understanding among physicians, patients, and family members. I strive to put myself in my patients' shoes to better understand their needs, concerns, and fears.

How I thrive

To stay fit, I exercise regularly and go hiking and jogging. In my free time, I enjoy amateur astronomy, astrophotography, nature photography, reading, listening to classical music and opera, and traveling.

Kaiser Permanente is committed to providing accessible facilities, services, and programs for all members, visitors and individuals with disabilities. In compliance with federal and state laws that prohibit discrimination based on disability, Kaiser Permanente provides:

  1. accessible exam rooms and medical equipment;

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.

A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
